Ancient Wood Pendants

Ancient Wood Pendants by Killarney Pens are born from Ireland’s most treasured and time-honoured timbers — Yew, Bog Yew, and Bog Oak — each carrying its own story shaped by nature, history, and craft.

Every pendant begins its journey in our Killarney workshop, where traditional hand-tool techniques bring these remarkable woods back to life. The Yew, long associated with strength and everlasting life, is carefully selected from storm-fallen or naturally decayed trees found in the forests surrounding Killarney. Its deep russet-red and golden tones reveal the quiet beauty of renewal, giving new purpose to timber that might otherwise be lost.

Bog Yew and Bog Oak, by contrast, emerge from the earth itself — ancient timbers preserved for thousands of years beneath Ireland’s peat bogs. Over millennia, these woods undergo the early stages of fossilisation, their grains darkening and their textures transforming into deep, rich tones that speak to Ireland’s distant past. When uncovered, dried, and shaped by hand, they reveal patterns and colours as unique as fingerprints — tangible connections to landscapes and forests long vanished.

Each pendant is individually shaped and polished by hand, using only natural mineral oils and organic beeswax to protect and enhance the wood’s tone and texture. Select designs incorporate coloured resin inspired by the natural palette of Killarney — from fiery ambers to tranquil lake blues — symbolising the meeting of Ireland’s ancient materials and contemporary artistry.

Finished with your choice of a sterling silver bail or knot-style leather cord, every pendant is presented in an eco-friendly hessian bag and accompanied by a care kit. No two are ever the same — each one a timeless keepsake that captures the spirit of Killarney, the patience of craftsmanship, and the enduring soul of Ireland’s woodlands.
